Of Cthulhu and Cocktails - Corpse Reviver 2e (C&C pt. 1)

Well, Halloween has just come and gone. Another fun year that leaves us smack in the middle of a gorgeous fall here in the greater DC area.

There are few things that we enjoy around here more than watching horror movies, crafting cocktails, and eating H’s amazing Thai Duck Curry… (this year we watched Takashi Miike’s Audition). Interestingly, to get into the Fall spirit we have found ourselves spending more time in the Lovecraft universe dabbling with Call of Cthulhu (7e) and Eldritch Horror. Both are well worth your time and provide a great way to catch up with friends and embrace the cosmic horror of the great old ones.

To this end, we have found ourselves coming back to the cocktails of the 1920s. Gaming helps to engage the mind and having well paired food and drinks beautifully sets the stage and helps add a fun note of authenticity to the event. For the inaugural event we decided to go with, what else, a minor variation on the Corpse Reviver #2. The gin was selected for its flowery nose and “sweetness” which reminded us of other cocktails of this era.

Corpse Reviver #2e

1 oz Gin - We used Crafter’s Aromatic Flower Gin for this drink

1 oz Vermouth - Del Professore is delicate, sweet and complex

1 oz Cointreau

1 oz freshly squeezed Lemon Juice

Rinse the glasses (gently!) with Absinthe

Steps:

Simply combine all the ingredients (except the Absinthe) and shake over ice.

Strain into a coupe glass that has been rinsed with a small amount of Absinthe.

Garnish with homemade boozy cherries and candied orange peel.
