Negroni and variations
Here's the original version, plus two riffs:
Negroni (the classic)
- 1 oz. gin, London dry style (such as Beefeater or Tanqueray)
- 1 oz. sweet vermouth (e.g., Carpano Antica or Cinzano)
- 1 oz. Campari
- orange twist, for garnish
White Negroni (adapted from Milk and Honey NYC)
- 1-1/2 oz. Bombay Dry Gin
- 3/4 oz. Dolin Vermouth Blanc
- 3/4 oz. Suze (the original used Avèze, another gentian liqueur)
- grapefruit twist, for garnish
Little Bird Negroni (from Little Bird Bistro, Portland OR)
- 1 oz. Bombay Sapphire
- 1 oz. Cocchi Americano
- 1 oz. Gran Classico
- lemon twist, for garnish
Additional requirements: cocktail shaker, ice, bar spoon, coupe or old-fashioned glass
Steps
- Half-fill the shaker with ice.
- Add liquid ingredients and stir until chilled.
- Strain into a chilled coupe (straight up) or old-fashioned glass over ice (on the rocks).
- Garnish with citrus twist.
